Who We Are

The Lutheran Homes Society was organized in 1895 through the efforts of Reverend Henry Reinemund. Mrs. Hershey was the wife of a wealthy lumber king and sold her home to Lutheran Homes at a minimal cost to be used for the orphanage. Originally, all efforts were channeled into providing nurturing in a Christian environment for children. Later, Lutheran Homes expanded its Christian concern to include care services for the elderly. With the completion of Valley View Manor Nursing Facility in 1967, the path was set for dedication to senior living and care. Adjacent farmland, which once helped sustain our orphan children, now serves to bring enjoyment to residents as they view the tilling of the soil and harvesting of crops.
